Press Release
Drones as a key technology at ILA Berlin 2026
Drones are becoming an increasingly important technology for industrial applications, as well as for security and defence purposes. They inspect wind turbines, provide situational awareness in disaster zones, and perform tasks in defence scenarios. UAS are therefore an integral part of the aerospace sector and a central theme of ILA Berlin 2026. From 10 to 14 June, companies will showcase the latest developments in key application areas. Among those taking part are the start-ups Stark Defence and Helsing, who will be showcasing their innovations in loitering munitions. Other exhibitors focusing on drones include Airbus, MBDA, brigkAIR, Hensoldt, Quantum-Systems and Quantum Frontline Industries.
“Drones have evolved from a niche product into a key strategic technology. Anyone discussing industrial competitiveness and the ability to act in the field of security policy must talk about UAS,” said Marie-Christine von Hahn, Chief Executive of the BDLI.
The new Drone Pavilion brings drone technology to life
In the Drone Pavilion, companies showcase their systems not just as static displays, but in action: in the integrated flight zone (‘Drone Cage’), visitors can experience drone technology under realistic conditions. The Pavilion thus provides a clearly structured framework for discussion, visibility and demonstration across key UAS application areas.
Swarm Drone Challenge showcases the future of autonomous drone systems
A highlight of the Drone Pavilion is the Swarm Drone Challenge, organized by MBDA Germany and brigkAIR in collaboration with other partners. International teams are developing autonomous drone swarms that work together to solve complex tasks. Teams from countries ranging from India to Canada will compete against each other in a ‘Capture the Flag’ scenario, demonstrating their skills in swarm coordination, communication and artificial intelligence. The competition offers a prize fund of 50,000 Euro and is open to representatives from companies, start-ups and universities.
