CH-53K helicopter premiere
Premiere: At the ILA Berlin, engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines, together with Sikorsky, will be showcasing their joint flagship project, the CH-53K heavy-lift helicopter. The powerful workhorse is capable of lifting more than 16,000 kilograms – three times the external load-carrying capacity of its predecessor CH-53G –, and its cabin is 31 centimeters wider than that of the competing aircraft.
The U.S. Marine Corps has placed an order with Sikorsky for 200 CH-53Ks along with 800 T408 engines. MTU, Germany’s industrial lead company for practically all engines operated by the country’s military, manufactures the three-stage power turbine, plus the exhaust casing and output shaft. Moreover, MTU will also hold licenses for maintenance, customer support and testing.
European research programmes at a glance
In a joint stand at ILA Berlin, the European Commission and the Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking (JU) will propose, for the first time, an overview of the opportunities offered by the European Union to support the aviation industry, researchers, universities and SMEs.
The visitor will enjoy some of the most successful European funded projects and their outcome. At the stand, visitors will also find an „agora“ area for discussions about major aviation topics and get the opportunity for networking.
Tesat-Spacecom displays new laser terminals
10 years ago Tesat-Spacecom was the first company worldwide that successfully via laser transferred data between satellites in space. Until now the companies’ laser communication terminal is the only verified terminal in the orbit. At ILA Berlin Tesat-Spacecom will showcase the numerous developments that have been accomplished since then.
The next generation laser terminals will be presented at the stand in live 1:1 format. Among others the visitor can see for example the „SmartLCT“ for near-earth application or „TOSIRIS“ for compact satellites. Visitors will also be able to see the anniversary terminal of the year 2008.
