The Atlas Aero GmbH is certain that personal transport will undergo substantial transformation within the next decade. Therefore, they have developed and conceptually optimized Origin – an airplane which combines the advantages of fixed-wing aircraft with vertical take-off and landing capabilities.
Due to Origin’s foldable wings which allow for on-ground drivability and space-efficient parking, it is possible to:
- avoid congestion
- travel at 300 km/h while using just as much fuel as a smart car, up to 1500km
- use established infrastructure like streets and garages
VTOL & Drivability
Although invisible in forward flight, Origin has full vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities. An additional 30 kph on-street drivability further augments its flexibility.
The streamlined design of our airplane results in aerodynamic properties close to those of gliders - which is yet to be matched in the VTOL category.
Using a unique hybrid drive concept, Origin combines the best of electric and liquid fuels - resulting in a 400% higher range than predicted for purely electrical concepts.
300kph with less than 5l fuel per 100km
Origin flies as fast as sport cars drive while using as much fuel as a smart car – whilst independent of road congestion and always on the direct route.
Their first airplane generation is targeting pilots as a competition to small helicopters – being easy-to-fly, faster, greener and higher in range. These advantages also make it a great choice for first responders. Its market introduction is planned for 2025-2026.
A second generation is intended to fly autonomously and therefore it can reach a mainstream market, competing with cars and enabling ridesharing models for the people.
Atlas Aero GmbH was founded in 2019 after years of conceptual optimization of Origin’s concept.
Currently, they are working on a full-scale remote-controlled prototype which is to be exhibited as soon as possible (currently scheduled for October 2020) and used as a proof-of-concept of their propulsion system until the end of Q4/2020.
