UAS Joint Stand
Consolidated research- and technology know-how
An important topic at ILA this year was the UAS Joint Stand that combined famous UAS manufacturers and research companies under one roof. They presented their newest flight devices and research projects in one presentation area in a compact form. Again the ILA supported with its UAS-Pavilion universities, research projects, startups and small producers in exhibiting unmanned flying systems of civil use.
In total around 40 exhibitors from 12 countries presented trends and innovative application areas for UAS at ILA 2016.
ILA Copter Race
Smaller, unmanned aircraft such as copters are gaining in popularity. The German Model Aircraft Association (DMFV), together with the Chinese multicopter manufacturer Yuneec, brought this fascinating technology to the ILA Berlin Air Show 2016. The new trend, FPV Racing (First Person View), was one of the exciting highlights for visitors. On a specially constructed race track professional pilots flew their high performance aircraft several times each day, as well as providing a view from the cockpit. The copters were equipped with a camera, giving visitors the impression that they are piloting the aircraft, and they were able to experience the race either on a large screen or with special video glasses.
Frank Weigand, General Manager of the German Model Aircraft Association:
“As the Official Partner of the ILA 2016 we intend to give people plenty of excitement and thrills. Copter racing was a hit with any technically minded persons.“
