ILA 2010 Space Pavilion illustrates importance of space flight to our everyday lives

True to the motto "Space for Earth" the Space Pavilion jointly arranged by the partners BMWi, ESA, DLR and BDLI provides an ideal platform for delegations as well as for the public to gather first-hand information about the role space flight plays in our everyday lives and to learn more about the excellent German and European competencies and the technological know-how in the field of space flight.

What will be on show?

German lead position in European space flight
Latest findings of European and German environment and climate satellites (among others Tandem-X and Cryosat II (1:1 mock-up), first data and images
The European satellite navigation system GALILEO – German system leadership for the space segment
German contributions to the European launcher Ariane 5 and its further development, upper stage (scale 1:1)
Space applications for defence and security (SARLupe, SatComBw-2)

Space applications as well as the use of space flight are in the focus of this year’s Space Pavilion, which will traditionally be organised by the partners Federal Ministry of Economics, and Technology BMWi, the European Space Agency ESA, the German Aerospace Center DLR and the German Aerospace Industries Association BDLI.

In the field of Earth Observation the theme „global climate change“ will be a central issue. Current satellite images will give examples of practical applications. Satellite navigation and communication will also be highlighted by the space exhibition.

Moreover, the European access to space enabled by launcher Ariane 5 as well as the successful use of the International Space Station ISS and the European research laboratory Columbus will be featured by the show. Germany’s participation in these projects proves its leadership position.
